Todd Boehly, the owner of Chelsea, is reportedly planning to release Thiago Silva when his contract expires. The club has no intention to extend Silva’s stay beyond the summer, creating a challenging situation for manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Silva, who joined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020, has been a valuable asset with nearly 150 appearances for the club. However, at nearly 40 years old, his lack of pace has occasionally exposed the team in recent matches.

As a result, the club is not planning to offer him a contract extension. Boehly has been actively bolstering the defensive line with the recruitment of other top defenders like Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, and Wesley Fofana.

Additionally, young talents like Levi Colwill are also being groomed for future roles. Despite his age, Silva has been a regular starter for Chelsea this season and remains an important member of Pochettino’s squad.

However, his wife’s recent comments on social media after a tough match indicate potential dissatisfaction with the situation. As Silva’s contract is set to expire in June, it is important for Chelsea to handle his departure respectfully to maintain harmony within the team.

The veteran defender’s exit would also provide opportunities for younger players to step into more prominent roles.
