Xabi Alonso, the former Spanish player for Liverpool from 2004 to 2009, has been linked with a potential return to Anfield. His significant contributions to the club’s successes during that period, including the Champions League win in 2005 and the FA Cup victory a year later, have been well-remembered. Currently, Alonso is involved in a Bundesliga title challenge with Leverkusen, who are two points ahead of Bayern Munich.

Additionally, Leverkusen’s domestic cup aspirations are intact after a dramatic midweek quarter-final win over Stuttgart. Bastian Schweinsteiger, previously a teammate of Alonso at Bayern Munich, disclosed Alonso’s aspirations to manage Liverpool. Although the possibility of a move to Liverpool is acknowledged, Schweinsteiger expressed his desire for Alonso to remain in the Bundesliga for a while longer.

He highlighted Alonso’s impact on the competition, particularly in narrowing the gap between Leverkusen and Bayern Munich in the title race. Leverkusen, aiming for their first top-flight title and seeking to end Bayern’s Bundesliga dominance, eagerly anticipate a potential victory on Saturday to reinforce their fans’ belief in the team’s capabilities. Rumors of Liverpool’s interest in Alonso have surfaced, yet the player himself has remained focused on his present commitment to Bayer Leverkusen, expressing his admiration for Liverpool’s achievements under Jurgen Klopp while emphasizing his dedication to his current club.
