Tottenham star James Maddison will be looking to disrupt Manchester City’s chances in domestic cup competitions, particularly in the upcoming FA Cup clash.

Pep Guardiola’s previous attempt to sign Maddison could potentially backfire as the player is now fully recovered from a long-term ankle injury. His absence was felt during Spurs’ pre-Christmas slump, and his return could reignite their title challenge with his creativity and movement being instrumental to the team’s system.

Maddison’s impact at Spurs has been significant, with three goals and six assists in his first 11 Premier League appearances. Guardiola’s pursuit of the player was unsuccessful, and City’s need to win the FA Cup to maintain their excellent record in domestic competitions highlights the significance of this upcoming match.

With City already knocked out of the Carabao Cup, failing to win the FA Cup could potentially lead to criticism of a loss of ambition, especially after their success in the previous season. Maddison’s return adds an element of uncertainty and excitement to the race for silverware, and City’s possible exit from the FA Cup opens an opportunity for other teams to challenge for the title.
