Todd Kline is leaving Tottenham to join Chelsea after two-and-a-half years in north London. Tottenham’s chief commercial officer (CCO), Todd Kline, is set to join Chelsea after quitting his role in north London, according to reports. The American’s initial appointment was followed by a wave of departures at Spurs, while he struggled to fulfill Daniel Levy’s key aim of securing naming rights for the club’s state-of-the-art stadium. Kline has been a board member and CCO at Spurs since May 2021.
Despite his appointment, the pristine ground is still known as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. His leadership is also believed to have prompted ‘question marks’ behind the scenes at Spurs. Nevertheless, he will join up with Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly at Stamford Bridge in an as-yet-unknown senior business role. The former president of business at Chelsea, Tom Glick, vacated his role in May last year, and it remains up for grabs.
Kline is expected to play a prominent role in Chelsea’s new stadium plans, as Boehly and co are weighing up whether to rebuild Stamford Bridge or look to construct on a different site, with securing naming rights once again being a high priority. During his time at Spurs, Kline did manage to negotiate lucrative sponsorship agreements with INEOS and Cinch, as well as a deal with Formula One to build a karting track underneath the stadium. Chelsea are still looking to find their feet under the ownership of Boehly and Clearlake Capital, with the former Champions League regulars finishing a dismal 12th last year and facing pressure to keep their job. The Blues are currently 11th in the Premier League table with more defeats than wins this season, and they were beaten 4-2 at home to Wolves on Sunday afternoon.
