Anthony Martial has suffered more injury woes this season. The under-pressure Dutchman has aimed attention towards Martial’s injury fortunes when defending United’s abysmal goalscoring record this season.
Ten Hag believes United’s goal record would look far better if Martial were available with the forward, having been firmly in his plans at the start of the season. He emphasized the need for two strikers in the league and competitions and the necessity for more options to improve the team’s results.
Last season, they were even shorter up front, but still fared well. However, this season, the lack of choices in certain positions like striker and left full-back has negatively impacted the results.
Martial’s potential departure when his contract expires in July is expected, along with other players like Tom Heaton, Raphael Varane, and Jonny Evans whose deals are also up this summer. Ten Hag is likely to seek a new striker for the team, regardless of Martial’s status beyond the transfer window.
