Premier League issues statement regarding Everton’s appeal against second points deduction

A decision on Everton’s appeal against a two-point penalty will be made before the final day of the Premier League season. Earlier in the season, Everton were deducted 10 points.
However, this total was reduced to six upon appeal. In April, the club received a further two-point deduction.
An appeal against this second penalty was lodged by Everton last week. The Premier League has confirmed that the outcome of the appeal will be made public before the final day of the season, which takes place on Sunday, May 19.
The Premier League stated, “The independent Appeal Board has confirmed it intends to announce its decision regarding Everton Football Club before the last day of the current season. Everton are in a Premier League relegation battle (Image: Getty).”
The breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules led to the commission finding Everton in violation.
According to the rules, clubs are permitted to lose a maximum of £105 million over a three-year period. The independent commission found that Everton breached this by £16.6 million for the three-year period up to 2022-23.
The earlier charge related to the three years up to 2021-22. Everton currently occupy 16th place in the Premier League with 27 points.
Forest, who play Everton on Saturday, have 26 points, and Luton, who occupy the final relegation spot ahead of Burnley and Sheffield United, are on 25 points. Additionally, Everton owner Farhad Moshiri is trying to give prospective buyers 777 Partners more time to complete their takeover, as the Premier League has set conditions for 777 to meet before completing the purchase.
The Appeal Board’s intention to make its decision public in advance of Sunday, May 19, will provide certainty to all clubs and fans. If necessary, to achieve the intended timings, the Appeal Board will publish its written reasons separately, by no later than June 1, 2024, in accordance with the Premier League’s Standard Directions.
