Erik ten Hag, Man Utd boss, targets fourth Ajax reunion with ‘popular’ star on shortlist

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, expressed disappointment over the team’s conceding of soft goals during their 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. Ten Hag is reportedly interested in reuniting with Matthijs de Ligt, a centre-back for Bayern Munich, during his time at Ajax. De Ligt may potentially leave Bayern at the end of the season, and if Ten Hag remains as the manager for United next season, he plans to include the Netherlands international as one of his primary transfer targets. Ten Hag has already successfully brought three of his former students from Ajax to Manchester: Lisandro Martinez, Antony, and Andre Onana, for a total of £190 million. Ten Hag has also focused on signing players he is familiar with and trusts, such as Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount, Tyrell Malacia, and Wout Weghorst. If De Ligt were to join Manchester United, he would be the latest addition to Ten Hag’s team, having previously left Ajax for Juventus in a £68 million deal in 2019, before later transferring to Bayern for the same transfer fee three years later.
