Report: Manchester United offers Casemiro £20m to exit as Sir Jim Ratcliffe implements aggressive cuts

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to bring about significant changes at Manchester United, both on and off the pitch. One of the areas he aims to address is the club’s inflated wage bill, which has resulted from mishandled finances over the past decade. Casemiro, who was signed from Real Madrid for £70 million in 2022, has had a difficult second year at Old Trafford due to poor form and injury issues. As the Brazil captain, he is currently United’s highest earner with a weekly salary of £350,000. Ratcliffe is reportedly willing to take whatever measures necessary to balance the books, including potentially offloading Casemiro in the coming months. This could involve reaching a settlement and paying a significant sum in unpaid salary.

There is a possibility that United may agree to a pay-off with Casemiro, which could amount to £20 million or more. If this were to happen, it would likely impact future transfer targets’ financial demands, as Casemiro’s status as the highest earner at the club holds weight. It is also speculated that a departure could occur before the summer if an agreement can be reached between the two parties. If Casemiro’s contract is terminated, he would become a free agent and could join another club at any time.

AC Milan and Juventus, two prominent Serie A clubs, have been mentioned as potential suitors for Casemiro, keeping an eye on his contract situation. There have also been rumors linking him to a move to Saudi Arabia as part of the Saudi Pro League’s upcoming influx of high-profile players. Casemiro has previously expressed a desire to conclude his career in Brazil, but it appears unlikely that a return to his homeland would happen just yet. Ratcliffe and INEOS, the club’s owners, seem to be preparing for a future without Casemiro and are ready to support manager Erik ten Hag by bringing in a replacement as part of their early project plans.
