Two Premier League clubs express concern as Tottenham’s next January signing becomes apparent

Spurs have had a successful transfer window so far, with Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner making their debuts for the team. However, the club is not finished yet and is actively pursuing a defensive midfielder. Reports suggest that senior figures at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are pushing for a move for Kalvin Phillips, and the club has expressed their interest to Manchester City. Phillips, who has not started a Premier League game this season, is looking for regular game time in order to make a push for England’s Euro 2024 squad. Newcastle has been linked to Phillips, but their financial situation may prevent a move from happening this winter. Manchester City is asking for £7 million loan fee, as well as an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
Another player that Spurs are rumored to be interested in is Joao Gomes from Wolves. It is believed that a substantial offer could be on the way for the 22-year-old midfielder. Wolves will be eager to keep hold of Gomes, especially after losing Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes in the summer. Gomes has been a key player for Wolves this season and is valued at around £30 million.
Previously, Tottenham was linked with Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, but it may be challenging to secure a mid-season move for the stand-in Blues captain. With just under two weeks left in the transfer window, Spurs have the opportunity to make their final signing before their FA Cup match against Manchester City on January 26th.
