Arsenal brace for Nuno Tavares transfer saga as Edu prepares for challenging negotiations with Premier League competitors

Nuno Tavares may leave Arsenal before the end of the January transfer window. However, Arsenal’s technical director, Edu, would need to negotiate a complicated deal for Tavares to join another club. Tavares is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest but has only made four Premier League appearances since joining. Despite starting the last two games, he is expected to be replaced when Ola Aina returns from the Africa Cup of Nations. Marseille is reportedly interested in bringing Tavares back to France, but there is no break clause in his loan agreement with Forest. Therefore, Arsenal would have to reach an agreement with Forest to recall Tavares before allowing him to join Marseille, either on loan or permanently. However, Forest is unlikely to approve his return until their international players have come back, which may not happen until next month. Additionally, any decision would have to be rushed through, as Forest has a match against Bristol City in the FA Cup this weekend. Tavares had a successful loan spell at Marseille last season, making 31 league appearances and scoring six goals. However, there were reports of a conflict between Tavares and the then-manager, Igor Tudor, over his work rate. Despite this, Tudor praised Tavares and believed he had the potential to play for top clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Manchester City. Marseille is now managed by Gennaro Gattuso, who could offer Tavares a fresh start if his loan deal with Forest is terminated early. Tavares could potentially team up with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who joined Marseille on a free transfer last summer.
