Liverpool dealt major blow as Mohamed Salah’s AFCON injury turns out to be more serious than initially believed

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has suffered a significant injury at the Africa Cup of Nations, according to his agent Ramy Abbas. Salah injured his hamstring during Egypt’s match against Ghana and will be sidelined for an estimated period of 21 to 28 days. Abbas stated that Salah’s best chance of participating in the current tournament is to undergo intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoin the team when he is fit.

Salah had a goal and an assist in Egypt’s opening game against Mozambique, which ended in a 2-2 draw. However, he was substituted at half time during the match against Ghana, in which Egypt managed another 2-2 draw. Egypt currently sits in second place in Group B and will secure a spot in the round of 16 if they defeat Cape Verde in their final group match. The team aims to improve on their performance in the previous tournament, where they lost in the final to Senegal. The final match of the Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled for Sunday, February 11.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp commented on Salah’s injury after his team’s Premier League victory over Bournemouth, stating that Salah will likely do his rehabilitation with Liverpool’s medical staff. The details of his return are yet to be determined.

Following the injury, the Egyptian Football Association issued a statement confirming that Salah will return to England after the Cape Verde match for further treatment. They hope that he will be able to join the team for the semi-final of the AFCON, provided Egypt qualifies.

During a press conference prior to Egypt’s final group game, Salah was questioned about his injury but was unable to provide an update. He emphasized the team’s primary goal of securing qualification for the next round and praised their skilled players, good coach, and clear vision.
