Mikel Arteta Focusing on £13m Rising Star Endorsed by Liverpool Player

Mikel Arteta has overseen a quiet January transfer window at Arsenal. The club has reportedly identified Ezequiel Fernandez as a candidate to bolster Arteta’s midfield ranks. Fernandez, a Boca Juniors youngster, is highly thought of in Argentina and is attracting attention from several top European sides. The Gunners are among those interested, and Edu, the sporting director, is expected to prioritize getting new players in during the summer, rather than conducting major business in January.

Fernandez’s stock may rise further by the summer, as clubs like Benfica, Inter Milan, Sevilla, and Liverpool are also keeping tabs on his situation. Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister has praised Fernandez’s potential and believes he has the qualities to play in Europe. Meanwhile, Arsenal has kept a tight leash on their activity this January, with the potential for a modest midfield reinforcement, and the need for a striker recruitment in the summer.

The club is also expected to recruit a striker in the summer, as Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have failed to impress with their modest strike-rates this season. Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney are among Arteta’s more ambitious targets, but they would command massive transfer fees.
