Arsenal has set its sights on making a big-money move for Ivan Toney in the summer, according to reports. The club’s pursuit of Toney has been given a potential boost as Brentford is reportedly seeking a new forward, fueling speculation of a mega-money transfer. Toney, who recently returned to competitive action after an eight-month ban, is being linked to a summer transfer amid inconsistent performances from Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, causing Arsenal to fall behind in the Premier League title race. The 27-year-old striker, with a contract until 2025, is not expected to renew his current deal with Brentford, providing Arsenal with an opportunity to secure his transfer in the summer.
Should Brentford fail to secure a transfer for Toney at the end of the season, he could leave on a free transfer a year later. Arsenal’s pursuit of Toney comes after substantial spending in recent years, including approximately £200m on players like Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber. Despite a limited January budget, Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta has indicated that the team will have to continue playing with the same squad for the remainder of the season.
