The midfielder played a key role in the Gunners’ success, dictating the tempo of the match and luring Liverpool’s forwards into pressing with his patient approach.
Jorginho received plenty of plaudits for his display, though it remains to be seen how much longer Arsenal fans will be able to see the No. 20 at work in north London. Jorginho has provided experience both on and off the pitch, having won numerous trophies throughout his career, and his influence cannot be understated. The Gunners have a young squad and therefore having leaders for prospects to look up to is an important asset if Arteta is to lead the club to silverware over the course of this season.
Youngsters are likely to be targeted once more in the summer, and Arsenal must decide whether Jorginho will be required to settle those characters into the squad and lead by example at the training ground. Ex-Arsenal star Ray Parlour recently sang the praises of the midfielder, telling the Football FanCast: “He’s really good around the dressing room. Sometimes you need characters around the dressing room who even though you don’t play on a regular basis, you can keep pushing the lads. “We had Martin Keown in the Invincibles who didn’t play many games but he was always in that area where if someone was dropping off he was pushing people.
Jorginho is a certain player like that.”
