Football star faces awkward situation as he asks fans to not view celebration as ‘offensive’.

Milan van Ewijk, a player for Coventry, recently found himself in an awkward situation after appearing to perform a gesture that resembled a Nazi salute during a goal celebration. The Dutch defender clarified that he had simply confused two different celebrations, and he urged fans not to be offended by his actions.

The incident occurred during Coventry’s 2-1 victory over Millwall, which propelled the team into the play-off picture. Following the match, Coventry deleted an Instagram post depicting the controversial celebration.

In response to the public attention, van Ewijk commented on the post, expressing his apology and explaining the mix-up. Additionally, the club shared a less controversial image of van Ewijk performing a love-heart gesture to the fans.

Despite the recent attention on his goal celebration, van Ewijk, who joined Coventry last summer, has been an important player for the team, contributing two goals this season. Following their victory over Millwall, Coventry currently sits sixth in the Championship, with aspirations for promotion.

Coventry’s manager, Mark Robins, praised the team’s performance and acknowledged the challenges they faced during the match. He also highlighted the need for improvements to the pitch.
