Raphael Varane is reportedly set to leave Manchester United this summer. Varane has been plagued by injuries and a loss of form this term. INEOS are set to oversee a major overhaul of Ten Hag’s squad in the summer, which could also include the head coach himself if United fail to qualify for the Champions League or win the FA Cup. Several first-team stars will also be heading for the exit.
Wide-ranging reports suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been bemused by the vast sums of money spent on ageing and high-earning stars. One of those deals the British billionaire is believed to have asked questions about is the £60 million arrival of Casemiro from Real in 2022. Varane is not the only player who could leave United at the end of the season. Jonny Evans, Anthony Martial, and Tom Heaton’s contracts all expire, with Martial almost certain to be trimmed from the wage bill having found the net just once in the Premier League in 2023-24.
Sofyan Amrabat will also return to Fiorentina when his loan ends. The Moroccan has failed to win regular minutes under Ten Hag, and it seems difficult to justify a permanent deal for the 27-year-old. The ambitious INEOS chief will hope to add plenty of quality to the senior squad in the summer as he plots a return to the Premier League summit.
