Referee Francois Letexier made contact with Erling Haaland’s face as they exited the pitch at half-time of Tuesday’s Champions League tie. Manchester City and Erling Haaland were left furious after the incident. The Norwegian striker was not on target in the match against Real Madrid, but found himself at the center of drama alongside the match official.

Letexier accidentally hit Haaland with the back of his hand as they were making their way towards the tunnel after the first 45 minutes. Haaland emerged for the second half seemingly unscathed after the incident with Letexier, but was unable to get into the game due to superb marking by Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni. Instead, his teammates stepped up, with Phil Foden equalizing in the second half with a superb curling effort from distance. Josko Gvardiol then matched Foden with another long-range strike, but the hosts drew level again with a wonder-strike from Federico Valverde.
