Liverpool finds bargain Xabi Alonso release clause using new approach to recruit Leverkusen manager
Liverpool may be able to acquire Xabi Alonso for a reduced fee in the summer of 2025 due to a release clause in his contract, as per reports. The midfielder, currently with Bayer Leverkusen, has been previously linked to a move to Anfield and was also of interest to Bayern Munich. He is under contract until 2026, but his release clause will make him available for just £13million next year.
Initially, Liverpool had considered Alonso as a candidate for Jurgen Klopp’s successor, but the compensation package required to secure his services earlier was more than the value of his release clause. Bayern Munich and even Real Madrid may also be interested in signing Alonso when his release clause becomes active in 2025. In the meantime, Liverpool continues its search for a new manager.
Sporting boss Ruben Amorim has emerged as a potential candidate, and while he has been linked to other clubs, he has refrained from making any commitments about his future. He emphasized the importance of winning trophies and noted that discussions about his future will take place later on.
