Erik ten Hag needs to prove his worth for Man Utd between now and the end of the season. Manchester United supporters have widely criticized Cristiano Ronaldo for a social media post following Thursday’s match against Chelsea.

Many accuse him of reveling in his former club’s misfortune at Stamford Bridge with a cheeky two-word message shared almost at full-time. The 39-year-old, wearing an Al-Nassr tracksuit and cap, was seen smiling while looking at his phone next to a Saudi Arabian flag. He captioned the post “happy days” along with a green love heart.

His social media activity upset many United fans as the impact of the match result sank in. It is believed that Ronaldo’s post was a dig at Erik ten Hag, who had begun dropping the No. 7 from his teams as he shifted United’s style of play into his vision.

Ronaldo later expressed his discontent by refusing to come on as a late substitute in a match against Tottenham Hotspur, leading to his omission from the subsequent match against Chelsea. He further criticized Ten Hag during an interview with Piers Morgan, leading to his contract termination by United and eventually paving the way for a move to Saudi Arabia. If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never going to have respect for you,” Ronaldo told Piers Morgan during his interview.
