Raphael Varane supported to make surprising free transfer to Premier League rivals

Chelsea has been backed to make a surprise move for Manchester United defender Raphael Varane in the summer transfer window.
The experienced Frenchman looks set to become available on a free transfer when his contract expires in July, and Glen Johnson believes his former club should be all over it. Johnson is convinced Varane would represent a shrewd bit of business for Chelsea if they could convince him to land at Stamford Bridge. He stated, “Good players like that don’t come around often, and they certainly come around less often on a free transfer.” He also noted, “I know he’s not the Varane he was three or four years ago, but he’s still a bloody good player.”
As we saw with Thiago Silva, these kinds of experienced players who have played for top teams get the attention of the dressing room. But Varane’s impending availability would open up an interesting transfer opportunity for many clubs around Europe.
