Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was seen remonstrating with Jeremy Doku in a recent match against Brighton. Despite Manchester City winning 4-0 at the AMEX Stadium, Guardiola was visibly unhappy with the result.
Doku, who came on as a 78th-minute substitute for Bernardo Silva, had little time to impact the scoreline. Guardiola was furious with Doku, making his displeasure known in front of the departing home fans. He was seemingly unimpressed with Doku giving the ball away twice and made his feelings known, even holding up two fingers to highlight the squandered possessions.
This incident is not the first time Guardiola has used the aftermath of a big game to convey his opinions to a member of the squad. He has notably done so with players like Jack Grealish and Joshua Kimmich in the past. In a statement, Guardiola mentioned that he criticizes the players for the cameras and his ego, expressing that he seeks satisfaction in criticizing players for their performance.
He added that he uses the cameras to draw the compliments to himself when a player performs well, such as when Erling Haaland scores three goals. In the match against Brighton, Phil Foden scored twice, with additional goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Julian Alvarez, leading to a comfortable win for Manchester City. This victory moved City one point behind league leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.
