He made a humorous remark about potentially leaving Tottenham to manage a team in Sweden when questioned about VAR and how he would change its use before his team’s game against Chelsea. Throughout the season, Postecoglou has been vocal in criticizing the introduction of VAR, seeking “clarity” on incidents, such as the one involving Guglielmo Vicario in a recent match against Arsenal.
He expressed his unhappiness with the referee’s failure to intervene when Vicario was targeted during set-pieces. Postecoglou joked about moving to Sweden due to their decision against introducing VAR and later acknowledged that VAR is likely to remain in use in the Premier League.
However, he expressed a desire to change several aspects of its implementation, as he believes it has materially altered the game in a way that was not intended. He noted that the Champions League game he watched seemed to handle VAR decisions seamlessly and hoped that VAR would find the right balance to work effectively.
