Mikey Moore’s elevation into the Spurs’ squad could have come earlier this season if not for two bad injuries. He damaged his ankle ligaments, which kept him out for a prolonged period. Despite these setbacks, Moore managed to score an impressive 16 goals in 14 appearances for Spurs’ U18 team. Just turning 16 on the eve of the Premier League season, an impressive season could see him make his senior debut in the coming weeks.
Timo Werner’s hamstring injury, ruling him out for the rest of the season, may open a space for Moore to feature in the matchday squad for the visit to Chelsea. Though he has travelled with the senior team for several games, he is yet to make an appearance on the substitutes’ bench. With Spurs at a disadvantage in their race for Champions League football, sitting seven points behind Aston Villa, the pressure is less for the final five matches, creating an opportunity for academy players. Speaking about Moore, Postecoglou praised his talent and performance despite the disrupted season due to injuries.
He has adapted well to training with the first team and his potential debut against Chelsea would be an incredible introduction to senior football. Other options to replace Werner include Brennan Johnson, Richarlison, and Bryan Gil.
