Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been urged to give up on Antony and sell him now, rather than sticking by him in the hope that he will eventually come good. Antony joined the Red Devils in an £85million deal two summers ago but has failed to justify his hefty price tag since moving to the Premier League. Former Red Devils striker Andy Cole believes that United should use some of the money generated to land Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, who could cost United’s owners around £60m to buy. “Is he an upgrade on Antony?
Most definitely,” Cole told Betfred. “I read something that Dwight Yorke said about Antony recently, and he claimed that he felt sorry for him, and to a certain extent, I feel sorry for him too. To this day, I’m still unsure why they paid as much as they did for him and you can say he’s young and whatever, but I’m still waiting to see what he’s good at.” Antony has failed to justify his £85m price tag since moving to Old Trafford.
It has been reported that United’s new INEOS backers are looking to sell him and Jadon Sancho for a combined £100m in order to raise transfer funds. “If Olise does join in the summer, then he can bring a lot more to Manchester United because he’s very direct, he’s creative, he scores goals and he’s prepared to take people on.”
