According to reports in Italian media, Chelsea sent scouts to watch the Dutch midfielder during Atalanta’s Europa League quarter-final victory over Liverpool last week. Koopmeiners played a key role in his team’s 3-1 aggregate win, dashing Jurgen Klopp’s hope for a European trophy at Anfield.
Koopmeiners, a highly sought-after midfielder in world football, is the subject of interest from Chelsea. Italian publication Sportmediaset suggests that Chelsea may be planning to table a substantial offer, with a reported valuation of around £51 million. Despite Chelsea’s interest, transfer expert Dean Jones believes that Juventus is still the frontrunner in the race for Koopmeiners, despite reported interest from Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool. Koopmeiners himself has expressed his intention to leave Atalanta at the end of the season, showing interest in a move to the Premier League.
Atalanta director Luca Percassi, however, has refuted Koopmeiners’ desire to leave the club, stating that the team is solid and does not need to sell. He also mentioned that Koopmeiners has not asked to be sold. It remains to be seen where Koopmeiners will end up, but he has expressed his willingness to move to the Premier League or other potential destinations.
