Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is facing a 10-week absence due to surgery and it is uncertain if he will play for the club again. Martial has expressed a desire to leave Old Trafford, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. When he first joined United in 2015, there were high expectations for the young Frenchman who was relatively unknown at the time. However, he has struggled to match his impressive 17-goal season in 2019/20, and his recent performances have been lackluster. He has only scored one goal in the Premier League this season. It has been reported that Martial is eager to leave the club and he will be out of action for the next two-and-a-half months as he recovers from surgery. It remains questionable if he will be given opportunities to play once he returns to fitness. The last game he played was a 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth in December. Martial’s contract expires in June and while United have the option to extend it by another year, there have been no indications that they plan to do so. It seems likely that he will leave the club as a free agent in the summer. Martial has been at Old Trafford for nine years and is the second-longest-serving player after Luke Shaw. Despite his recent struggles, clubs in the Saudi Pro League are reportedly monitoring his situation and may offer him a new home in the upcoming transfer window.
