Arsenal unable to meet striker’s affordable release clause amid rumours dismissed by Gunners

Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to sign a new striker, but the club reportedly lacks the funds to meet Borja Mayoral’s release clause this month. Arteta has expressed his desire for a long-term striker to lead the line for Arsenal and the club is exploring options within the Premier League and abroad. Ivan Toney from Brentford and Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth are attractive homegrown options, but their high price tags could be a setback. Arsenal is also keeping an eye on Getafe’s Mayoral, who has had a great start to the season in La Liga. However, Arsenal is said to have very little room for new signings and may need to sell players to kickstart any recruitment plans.

Mayoral himself has remained unaware of Arsenal’s interest and has focused on his current club, Getafe. Arsenal has several fringe players who could be offloaded, but Arteta may not want to make significant changes to the squad while they are still in the title race and have been performing well. Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah are two players who could attract interest from other clubs if they are deemed surplus to requirements. Nketiah has already garnered interest from Crystal Palace and Brentford, while Aston Villa reportedly remains interested in Smith Rowe after trying to sign him in 2021.
