Chelsea maverick allegedly consumed pornstar’s blood, had multiple spouses, and coveted Ballon d’Or

Adrian Mutu’s time at Chelsea was filled with controversy and dramatic moments. His transfer to the club was highly anticipated, as manager Claudio Ranieri praised Mutu’s goal-scoring abilities. Mutu had already made a name for himself in his native Romania and had a successful stint in Italy before joining Chelsea. Despite not winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or, Mutu received as many votes as the renowned Ronaldinho. In his only full season at Stamford Bridge, Mutu scored 10 goals in all competitions. However, his time at Chelsea took a turn for the worse when he was caught in a scandal, secretly filmed with a pornographic actress and involved in unusual activities.

In 2004, Mutu failed a drug test that showed traces of cocaine, resulting in a seven-month ban and his termination from Chelsea. Years later, he faced another suspension after testing positive for an appetite-repressor while playing in Italy. Mutu’s relationship with Chelsea deteriorated when Ranieri was replaced by Jose Mourinho. Mourinho disapproved of Mutu’s partying lifestyle, causing a strained relationship between the two. Amidst the turmoil, Mutu went through a messy breakup and got married for the second time to Dominican model Consuelo Matos Gomez. They spent the next decade together and had two children.

During his time away from Chelsea, Mutu played for Juventus and had his most successful period at Fiorentina, scoring 70 goals in 143 matches. After spells with Cesena and Ajaccio, Mutu had unexpected experiences, including appearing in a music video for Snoop Dogg and getting married for the third time to former Miss Romania, Sandra Bachici. Mutu retired from professional football in the same year he married Bachici and began pursuing a career in management. He last managed Azerbaijani club Neftchi Baku in 2020. Looking back on his eventful career, both on and off the pitch, Mutu has a wealth of stories and experiences to reflect upon at the age of 45.
