Inter Miami Valuation Skyrockets, Boosting David Beckham’s Net Worth

Superstar David Beckham’s personal fortune could be set to skyrocket as his Inter Miami franchise has been valued at a whopping $1bn (£786m) for the first time. The former England and Manchester United star has made a successful transition into business since retiring from football in 2013. The 48-year-old had an illustrious playing career, winning trophies at Old Trafford, Real Madrid, and LA Galaxy, and also played for AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. His fame on the pitch has helped him become one of the most commercially profitable faces in sport. His celebrity status was further boosted by his marriage to Spice Girls icon Victoria Beckham. By the end of his playing days, he had earned an estimated £692million, largely due to lucrative endorsement deals with big brands like Armani, Gillette, and PepsiCo.

Now, a decade after hanging up his boots, Beckham has turned his attention to his commercial interests through his company, DB Ventures. The Times’ yearly Rich List reveals that the Beckhams now have a combined net worth of £404m as of 2023, thanks to their diverse portfolio. But perhaps one of the highlights of his post-playing career move into business has been creating Inter Miami, his popular MLS club, which is currently worth £802m. The team’s rise since 2018 got a real boost with the arrival of great Lionel Messi in 2023. Sports website Sportico says that even Beckham’s rivals have benefitted from the attention that came after Messi moved to the States. Indeed, Los Angeles FC, Atlanta United, and LA Galaxy have now all passed the nine-figure value mark for the first time this year. When Messi announced his move, he saw big potential in Florida and was excited about coming about Beckham’s project. He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity, and together we will continue to build this beautiful project. The idea is to work together to achieve the objectives we set, and I’m very eager to start helping here in my new home.”

The move to the US was a big win for the 36-year-old striker, with standout deals already being made with major MLS partners like Apple and Adidas to help lure him to America. The ‘Messi Mania’ effect has been huge, with teams seeing more fans get excited about local soccer. For example, even when Messi didn’t play, the Herons’ game against Chicago Fire saw a massive jump in season ticket sales by 75% and all 130 suites at Soldier Field were snapped up. The president of business operations for the team said: “It allowed us to be in a position to really leverage the opportunity when Messi came to town.”
