Manchester United has already made its position clear on Jose Mourinho’s return after he ‘destroyed’ a player

The pressure is mounting on Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford as he heads into a challenging second season as manager amid an upcoming upheaval in the club’s sporting structure. Ratcliffe’s £1.3 billion deal has given INEOS a 29% stake in United, granting them total control of football operations. This places the power to decide Ten Hag’s future in the hands of new United chief executive Omar Berrada and INEOS’ upcoming appointments. As the Red Devils struggle, potential managers are eyeing a change in the Old Trafford dugout for the summer, with Mourinho reportedly among them.

The 61-year-old is said to be eager for a second stint, believing he has unfinished business after being dismissed by United in December 2018 due to underwhelming results and conflicts with the club’s hierarchy and players. INEOS’s founder criticized Mourinho’s treatment of Shaw, claiming he “destroyed” the left-back during his tenure. Despite Ratcliffe’s comments, the prospect of Mourinho’s return to United is unrealistic. Whether Ten Hag will depart or not will depend on the arrival of a new director of football in M16 before the end of the season.

If he does leave, United’s new leadership would likely prefer a younger option for a fresh start.
