Bayer Leverkusen se ‘prepara’ para Xabi Alonso rumbo al Liverpool mientras los Reds buscan sucesor de Klopp

Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly making plans for the anticipated departure of manager Xabi Alonso this summer. Jurgen Klopp’s recent announcement of his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season came as a shock in both Germany and England, with Alonso immediately becoming the frontrunner to succeed him. The Spaniard, who spent five years as a player at Anfield and was part of their dramatic 2005 Champions League success, has been the subject of speculation, although he has remained focused on his team’s Bundesliga title challenge. Leverkusen is reportedly considering potential replacements for the 42-year-old manager, but their plans seem to be hindered by a potential stumbling block.

According to reports, Hansi Flick was considered a potential successor, but he is reportedly a top candidate for FC Barcelona’s head coach position as Xavi’s successor. Alonso, 42, previously spent three years in charge of Real Sociedad B before joining Leverkusen in October 2022. Under his leadership, the team has experienced a turnaround in league form and reached the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they were defeated by Roma. Currently, Leverkusen is unexpectedly in the title race, leading champions Bayern Munich by two points as they head into a crucial clash on February 10.

In Germany, it is widely anticipated that Klopp will take on another significant coaching role, possibly even as the German national coach, despite the possibility of taking a break following his departure from Liverpool. He has also been linked to the English national coach position, and it is believed that he will continue his coaching career in the future.
