Chelsea legend poses Jose Mourinho question as Jurgen Klopp prepares to depart
Jose Mourinho is currently seeking a new job after being sacked by Roma. Chelsea icon Mario Melchiot believes Mourinho is unlikely to return to England after enjoying much success in the Premier League. Mourinho won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and three League Cups during his two stints with Chelsea, as well as a League Cup and a Europa League trophy during his time at Manchester United. However, his tenure at Tottenham Hotspur was trophyless, leaving a sour taste for the Portuguese manager.
Melchiot suggests that Mourinho is more likely to become England’s new manager than to return to the Premier League, with potential vacancies arising, such as the Liverpool job. However, he questions whether Mourinho’s style of play would suit England’s current direction and whether Mourinho would want to slow down. It is suggested that Saudi Arabia is the most likely next destination for Mourinho, as he has expressed expectations of taking a job in the Saudi Pro League before retiring. Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate’s position as England manager seems secure for the time being.
