Gary Lineker withdraws from BBC’s Match of the Day following new statement release online.

The famous rule: use English language. Home of the Daily and Sunday Express. Gary Lineker has pulled out of BBC’s Match of the Day due to illness, which is said to have “silenced” him. He confirmed his absence on social media, mentioning the unwelcome duration of his illness with a touch of humor.

Mark Chapman will replace Lineker on Match of the Day 2, likely alongside regular pundits Alan Shearer and Ian Wright. The show will feature analysis of seven games from matchday 24, including Manchester City’s 2-0 win against Everton. Other matches, like Wolves vs Brentford, Fulham vs AFC Bournemouth, and Luton Town vs Sheffield United, are also scheduled for the day. Nottingham Forest will host Newcastle United in the 5.30pm fixture, concluding before MOTD goes live at MediaCity UK in Salford.

Lineker’s long-term future is uncertain, especially following his brief suspension last year for breaching impartiality guidelines. In addition, his long-time MOTD hosting partner, Ian Wright, announced his departure from the show at the end of the 2023/24 season.
