Mason Greenwood sends message to Ratcliffe as Man Utd ponder next move

Mason Greenwood set up two goals for Getafe in their late comeback against Celta Vigo on Sunday as the Manchester United loanee sent a fresh message to Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Greenwood’s Getafe displays have been inspired as of late, recently illustrated by the two assists he registered in their 3-2 win over Vigo. The one-cap England man looked like he had squeezed home a second goal when his effort just got past goalkeeper Vicente Guaita. But as it was heading for the net, Jaime Mata made sure and tapped it in from close range.
However, goals from Jorgen Strand Larsen and Tadeo Allende levelled the game at 2-2 with just five minutes remaining. Greenwood then stepped up and swung in a cross that Mata was able to bundle home in the 89th minute to send Getafe supporters into raptures. Greenwood’s assist tally has been taken to six in La Liga, in addition to his five goals, propelling Getafe into the top half of the table.
It had been expected that providing there was interest in Greenwood, he would leave United permanently after the club released a statement saying that despite the charges against him being dropped, his future would lie elsewhere. But with a new man in charge in Ratcliffe, with his deal to buy 25 per cent of the club still to be ratified, there is a chance that a reversal may be made on that previous decision. The Sun claim that Greenwood’s situation has been made a top priority by Ratcliffe.
With United hamstrung by Financial Fair Play constraints, Greenwood could be viewed by the club as someone who they can receive a hefty fee from amid interest from Barcelona, AC Milan and Saudi Arabia. Or Greenwood could be the answer to the Red Devils’ goalscoring problems. No team in the top half of the Premier League table has scored fewer goals than United, with Erik ten Hag’s outfit notching 33 times in their first 24 games.
There has especially been a big gap on the right-hand side of the attack, with Antony struggling to live up to his price tag and Jadon Sancho exiled before joining Borussia Dortmund on loan. Greenwood could fill that spot which has been taken by Alejandro Garnacho in recent weeks. It would mark a big U-turn for Ratcliffe to bring Greenwood back into the fold, but his form for Getafe and recent two crucial assists against Vigo will be food for thought for those now in charge at Old Trafford.
