Mikel Arteta expresses feelings on Arsenal’s ‘next Saka’ as deal nears end

Mikel Arteta has expressed his intentions regarding an Arsenal starlet who has drawn comparisons to key forward Bukayo Saka. Ahead of an important match against West Ham, a team that has already beaten Arsenal twice this season, Arteta has made a surprising move by including teenager Amario Cozier-Duberry in the senior squad. Cozier-Duberry joined the club in 2019 and participated in the first team’s pre-season tour of America.

However, he has only been part of a match-day squad under Arteta once, as an unused substitute during a 3-1 win over West Ham in December 2022. At 18 years old, Cozier-Duberry’s contract is expiring in the summer, which could potentially have a significant impact on the club if he leaves on a free transfer. Arteta is aiming to persuade the academy graduate to prolong his time with Arsenal by showing faith in his abilities.

Arsenal Under-18 coach Jack Wilshere had previously spoken highly of Cozier-Duberry’s potential, likening him to Saka while also highlighting areas for improvement. Saka, 22, has been a crucial player for Arsenal this season, scoring eight goals and playing a pivotal role in their recent 3-1 win over Liverpool. Despite this win, Arsenal cannot afford any further setbacks.

The gap between Arsenal and the league leaders, Liverpool, has narrowed to two points, and defending champions Manchester City are now level with Arsenal but have a game in hand.
