Man Utd duo ‘left in limbo’ until Ratcliffe completes buy-in as Erik ten Hag powerless

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to complete his buy-in to Manchester United later this week, with INEOS taking control of the club’s sporting operations. The £1.2 billion investment, originally scheduled for completion by Tuesday, has been delayed until Friday.

This delay has left some uncertainty for players like Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans, both of whom are out of contract in the summer and are awaiting clarity on their futures. The approval of Sir Jim by the Premier League’s directors and owners’ test has set the wheels in motion towards a resolution.

According to reports, Manchester United will refrain from making concrete decisions on the future of Varane and Evans until Sir Jim and his INEOS team are in place at Old Trafford. Manager Erik ten Hag faces a waiting period, unable to provide assurances to these players until INEOS appoints key personnel, which could be a time-consuming process.

The involvement of INEOS will be crucial in determining the future of Varane and Evans. The club’s recent winning streak, including an impressive victory at Villa Park, has been occurring amidst this uncertain period.

In addition to Varane and Evans, Anthony Martial, Tom Heaton, and Brandon Williams, whose contracts also expire at the end of the season, could potentially be affected by the decisions of United’s new regime.
