His purchase of a 25 per cent stake in the club has reportedly been approved by the Premier League and is on the verge of being completed.

The league has confirmed its approval, and the sale could be sealed within a few days. Ratcliffe has passed the directors and owners’ test required by the Premier League. United’s filings to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday night confirmed the league’s private approval of the deal.

A statement from the Premier League confirming the decision is expected once the deal is officially completed, likely next week. United released a statement on Christmas Eve confirming that a deal had been reached for the chairman of INEOS to purchase 25 per cent of the Class B shares held by the Glazer family, who will retain majority ownership. In December, Ratcliffe expressed his pleasure at the agreement, stating, “As a local boy and a lifelong supporter of the club, I am very pleased that we have been able to agree a deal with the Manchester United board that delegates us management responsibility of the football operations of the club.”

He also emphasized the commitment to working with the board, staff, players, and fans to drive the club forward and expressed a clear ambition to see Manchester United back at the top of English, European, and world football.
