Manchester United and Chelsea have both been struggling to score goals this season. This has impacted their ability to earn points in the Premier League.
Despite heavy spending on new players over the past year, both teams have faced challenges in the attacking third, which have proven decisive in many matches. United won their 13th game of the season by defeating Aston Villa 2-1, with Scott McTominay scoring an 86th-minute winner.
This victory moved them up to sixth place in the league. Surprisingly, McTominay, along with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, is among the top scorers for United this season.
Bruno Fernandes is the only other player in the team to have scored more than once. This shortage of goals has prompted calls for the club to bring in another striker during the January transfer window.
For United to compete with teams like Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool, who have scored significantly more goals, they will need to improve in the attacking front. Currently, they are not producing enough goals to be competitive.
Similarly, Chelsea, managed by Mauricio Pochettino, has also struggled to score, having only managed 38 goals so far this season. This is a disappointing statistic considering the high-value squad at Pochettino’s disposal.
