Roy Keane expresses major concerns about Dan Ashworth as Man Utd nears Newcastle signing

Dan Ashworth’s potential move to Manchester United has been a topic of discussion, with Roy Keane expressing concern over the prospect. The Red Devils are in negotiations with Newcastle United to acquire Ashworth, who currently serves as the sporting director at the club. This comes as part of the reorganization of football operations under the new INEOS era, set to commence following a significant investment. Amidst the impending changes, Omar Berrada has already been appointed as the club’s new chief executive, and Ashworth is now being targeted for a high-profile role in the recruitment department.

Despite his recent move to Newcastle from Brighton and Hove Albion, Keane has raised doubts about Ashworth’s willingness to remain at a club for an extended period. He emphasized Ashworth’s apparent eagerness to explore new opportunities, expressing concern that he may not commit long-term to a project as ambitious as restoring Manchester United to the top of English and world football. Ashworth’s career in football has been marked by various roles, starting with his transition from player to academy director at Peterborough United and later at Cambridge United. He subsequently joined West Bromwich Albion, where he held positions such as youth team manager and sporting and technical director.

His departure from West Bromwich Albion in 2012 led to his role at the FA. Keane’s concerns and Ashworth’s career history make for a compelling narrative as the potential move to Manchester United continues to unfold.
