Sir Alex Ferguson advised Dave Brailsford to remove certain individuals in a private conversation.

Sir Dave Brailsford, the former British Cycling performance director and current INEOS Grenadiers team principal, has joined the United board and is leading an audit of the club’s operations. Although Brailsford has limited experience in football, he has a strong track record of excellence in various sports. He is involved in identifying and appointing top-tier football executives to enhance United’s sporting structure.

Omar Berrada, who recently left Manchester City, has already joined as chief executive, and it is expected that Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth will join as sporting director. Brailsford will also be seeking advice from highly respected individuals at United as he conducts a thorough review of the club’s failures over the past decade. This includes seeking input from Sir Alex Ferguson, who has previously provided guidance to Brailsford.

Despite Brailsford’s background in cycling, he has been seen alongside Ferguson and his ex-chief executive David Gill at games, indicating a familiarity with the football world. During his time at British Cycling, Brailsford was known for seeking marginal gains to build a successful program, and Ferguson had visited him at the Manchester Velodrome and invited him to his home to discuss team commitment. Therefore, his discussions with Ferguson are not new, and the two have a history of exchanging ideas and strategies.
