Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, had a positive working relationship with John Murtough, who functioned as the football director at the club, offering him much-needed support during his two-year tenure. Ten Hag is now looking for a replacement to aid the transition into the next season.
However, Manchester United is currently engaged in negotiations with Newcastle over sporting director Dan Ashworth, who is on gardening leave by the Magpies. Ten Hag expressed the importance of finding a replacement for Murtough and acknowledged the support he provided.
Despite Murtough’s departure, Ten Hag emphasized his satisfaction with the relationship with the new ownership. INEOS, the new ownership at Old Trafford, is set to make significant changes to the club’s hierarchy, with incoming CEO Omar Berrada replacing Richard Arnold.
They are also pursuing the appointment of Jason Wilcox from Southampton as the technical director, while former FA technical director Dan Ashworth is a key target for the role of sporting director. However, negotiations are complicated due to Ashworth being on gardening leave and Newcastle’s demand for compensation.
Ahead of the upcoming match against Bournemouth, Ten Hag discussed the availability of Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay. He expressed uncertainty about McTominay’s availability due to a knee injury and indicated that Rashford’s availability would be determined after an upcoming training session.
