First meeting held for new Man Utd stadium as Seb Coe shares details of ‘world class’ ground

Lord Sebastian Coe has disclosed that the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force has convened its inaugural meeting to address Manchester United’s stadium concerns. The club aims to construct a ‘world class’ stadium, with speculation suggesting costs could reach £3 billion.

The team plans to demolish the current 75,000 capacity Old Trafford and replace it with a new ground, possibly on the same site or adjacent land. The task force is led by Coe, who gained prominence as the Chair of the organizing committee for the 2012 London Olympics.

Coe’s involvement signals the beginning of discussions on the redevelopment as he shared the news on X social media platform. He expressed enthusiasm about the potential social and economic benefits of developing a world-class football stadium in the northern region.

The task force’s inaugural meeting is the initial step in the journey to explore options for the stadium and its surroundings. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has expressed his desire to provide Manchester United with a top-tier home ground and is exploring various options.

Anticipation is mounting in Manchester for the arrival of a high-quality stadium. Sara Todd of Trafford Council has welcomed the prospect of renewed investment in the development of a world-class stadium and the neighboring Trafford Wharfside area, emphasizing the potential for transforming the historic industrial area into a modern hub for growth and a new community.

The council aims to work closely with the club, local residents, and other key partners to realize these ambitious proposals.
