Manchester United and Chelsea face scrutiny after Dortmund Champions League win.

Chelsea and United may feel embarrassed after their current and former players played a key role in an impressive comeback. Julian Brandt equalized the tie with the second leg’s opener, followed by a goal from Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen. Maatsen’s smart and low effort gave Dortmund their first lead of the evening, sparking excitement among the home fans. Maatsen, originally deployed in a more advanced position, was then loaned out to a team in the Champions League semi-finals where he made a considerable impact after being sparingly used by Mauricio Pochettino.

Meanwhile, former United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer scored the all-important goal for Dortmund after returning to Germany from Old Trafford. Dortmund’s success highlighted the reluctance of United to secure Sabitzer and their subsequent catastrophic group stage. Despite failed attempts at a permanent deal with Sabitzer, United brought in Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat, both of whom have yet to make the desired impact compared to Sabitzer and his European heroics.
