Following a penalty incident that occurred during Chelsea’s 6-0 win over Everton, new video footage has exacerbated matters for Madueke.

The winger attempted to line up a penalty for the Blues ahead of regular taker Cole Palmer, initially refusing to hand over the ball and continuing to protest even after club captain Conor Gallagher had intervened. Manager Mauricio Pochettino scathingly criticized Madueke’s actions, along with those of his teammate Nicolas Jackson, who also tried to wrestle for the ball. Fans and pundits also criticized the 22-year-old, with Jamie Carragher labeling the incident as “daft”.

In response to the criticism, Madueke uploaded a picture of the Chelsea team in their pre-match huddle on social media. However, he turned off the comments function, possibly anticipating negative responses from followers. The incident occurred while regular penalty taker Cole Palmer was temporarily down on the turf after being fouled.

Despite the win being tainted by the incident, Chelsea are now within striking distance of the teams in the European places. The Blues are just three points behind Newcastle in sixth, but with a better goal difference and a game in hand.
