Liverpool have been linked with Ruben Amorim as they hunt for a Jurgen Klopp replacement. Sporting boss Ruben Amorim has been the leading candidate to replace the German at Anfield in recent weeks. Klopp announced his intentions to quit Liverpool back in January after nearly nine years at the club.
Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso and Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann were linked with the Reds role but are now out of the running, with Amorim since being tipped to take charge. However, according to The Athletic’s transfer guru David Ornstein, Amorim is “unlikely” to take charge of Liverpool, with the Reds now aiming to be “brave over popular” when it comes to the appointment. Amorim is now said to be in talks with West Ham about succeeding David Moyes.
Liverpool could turn to Feyenoord manager Arne Slot in their search for a new boss. Slot took charge at Feyenoord in the summer of 2021 and led his side to the Eredivisie title last season. The 45-year-old then guided his team to Dutch Cup success on Sunday as Feyenoord dispatched NEC Nijmegen 1-0 in the final.
And the Dutchman would surely jump at the opportunity to manage a club of Liverpool’s stature. Klopp led Liverpool to their first Premier League title in 2020, a year after the Reds had clinched the Champions League trophy. And the Merseyside giants have also won the Club World Cup, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup during the 56-year-old’s tenure.
“I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take,” Klopp said as he announced his decision to step down.
