Unai Emery signs new Aston Villa deal to ward off Bayern Munich

Unai Emery, Manager of Aston Villa, was interviewed prior to the UEFA Europa Conference League 2023/24 Quarter-final first leg match between Aston Villa and Lille OSC at Villa Park on April 11, 2024 in Birmingham, England. The rapid initiation of contract negotiations is believed to have been sparked by rumours of interest in Emery’s services from clubs across Europe. Villa’s owners have now secured the future of the 52-year-old with a renewed contract, as reported by the Mirror.

Emery dismissed rumours of his association with the Bayern Munich job, affirming his dedication to Aston Villa after their victory over Bournemouth. He stated, “I am focused here, 100 per cent.” This followed support from Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl and Germany legend Lothar Matthaus, who endorsed Emery as a serious contender for the role.

Matthaus commended Emery’s credentials on Sky Germany, expressing his opinion that Emery would be a great fit for the position. He highlighted Emery’s experience, both domestically and internationally, and his title-winning achievements with Sevilla.
