Todd Boehly Confronts Uncomfortable Reality About Chelsea Despite Sacking Mauricio Pochettino

Speculation suggests that Pochettino may be given his marching orders before the start of next season if things fail to improve. However, relieving Pochettino of his duties would not absolve Boehly of his responsibility for Chelsea’s decline.

The American billionaire has spent hundreds of millions of pounds on players, many of whom have not proven to be good enough for the club’s stature. One issue is that many players have been tied down to lengthy contracts, making it difficult to sell them in the future.

Mykhaylo Mudryk, for example, has yet to deliver on the potential he showed before arriving at Chelsea last season. In a recent match against the Gunners, Mudryk’s performance was subpar, leading to questions about whether Chelsea overpaid for a player who may not be at the required level.

This could be similar to Manchester United’s experience with Antony two summers ago. Boehly is blamed for taking Chelsea backwards despite the club’s significant spending in recent years.

The decision to sign Mudryk, who has scored just six times in 53 appearances, highlights potential shortcomings in Chelsea’s player acquisitions. Even if Boehly chooses to relieve Pochettino of his duties in the summer, meaningful change may not occur unless he acknowledges and addresses his own shortcomings.
