Ritchie, a former Scotland international, has not started a Premier League game since December 2021 and is set to become a free agent this summer at the age of 35. In spite of being offered a contract extension last year, it is unlikely that Ritchie will continue with the club under fresh terms.

Instead, he may be looking to pursue a professional career as a lorry driver, having passed his Category C driving test with the Tyne & Wear LGV Driver Training Centre. Amid uncertainty about his future at Newcastle, Ritchie expressed his gratitude for the support from the club and his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success.

He acknowledged the evolution of his role within the squad, emphasizing his readiness to contribute whenever called upon.
