Ralf Rangnick could return to trouble Man Utd with two potential transfers

The former Red Devils interim boss has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Thomas Tuchel at Bayern in the summer. Ralf Rangnick, currently in charge of Austria, has not managed a club since his brief spell at United prior to Erik ten Hag’s arrival. Bayern considers him their top choice after failing to secure Julian Nagelsmann and Xabi Alonso. It is rumored that Jeremie Frimpong is among the names on Bayern’s radar, with Frenkie de Jong also mentioned as a player of interest.

Frimpong was reportedly admired by Rangnick during his time at United, and he may be pursued by the Red Devils as well, given his release clause of around £34 million becoming active in the summer. De Jong has been linked with United for several years but has shown no interest in joining the club, and he is tied to Barcelona until 2026. Whether Bayern will be successful in acquiring Frimpong and De Jong remains to be seen when the bidding opens later this year. Rangnick would be enthusiastic to have both players at his disposal if he joins Bayern, especially as the club faces a season without a trophy for the first time since 2012.

Rangnick recently confirmed that he was in talks with Bayern over the upcoming managerial vacancy, stating in a press conference: “They contacted us and I also informed the OFB about it. We have a very trusting relationship. My focus is on the Austrian national team. At the moment, there is no reason to deal with it intensively and specifically.”

He emphasized the importance of discussing any potential move with the Austrian Football Association and determining if he could make a difference and be successful in a new role.
