Van Dijk speaks out on Slot to Liverpool as Reds near appointment of manager.

Virgil van Dijk has extended his support to the potential new Liverpool manager, Arne Slot. The Anfield decision-makers are in negotiations with Feyenoord for compensation to bring Slot to Liverpool at the end of the current season.

Slot is expected to take over from Jurgen Klopp next month and Van Dijk, expressing his belief in Slot’s abilities, considers him an excellent choice for the position. Following Liverpool’s recent defeat to Everton, Van Dijk spoke to ViaPlay, praising Slot as one of the top Dutch coaches at the moment and endorsing his coaching philosophy for Liverpool.

However, he acknowledged that negotiations are still ongoing and it will be some time before anything is finalized. Liverpool’s initial offer to Feyenoord was dismissed, with reports indicating a variation in the valuations of the proposed deal.

Additionally, Slot is expected to bring in new members for Liverpool’s backroom staff, including his assistant coach and head of performance. Negotiations between the two clubs and Slot’s agent are underway, with face-to-face discussions expected in the near future.

Liverpool’s search for Klopp’s replacement is being led by Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, with Klopp himself not directly involved in the process. As the team focuses on their remaining games this season, the anticipation for Slot’s potential arrival as the new Liverpool manager continues.
